Movies That Don't Age Well

There are those films that, while still loved, certainly have scenes/character/plot points that don't really stand the test of time i.e. Breakfast at Tiffany's. And then there are movies like Once Upon a Time in America where De Niro rapes his girlfriend which nobody seems to talk about. Why do some movies get a pass?
