Booking the Big Jobs with August Black - Season 3 Episode 4

The Voiceover Hour Podcast - Un pódcast de The VoiceOver Network

Authenticity in casting is reaching far further now than it ever has done and in this episode we hear from someone who can talk about this first hand.  August Black is an American actor who is just finding his footing in the industry. With that being said the jobs he has tackled so far are solid steps in growing a long term career. August’s first acting role came from a music video directed by Dano Cerny, for the artist Wrabel, called “ the Village” which tackled a heart breaking story of a transgender teen in a un-accepting home. Being a trans man himself this opportunity sparked in him something never expected and pushed him to pursue a career in acting and voice over. In 2020 Xbox and DONTNOD released "Tell Me Why" with August Black voicing Tyler Ronan. Tyler was the protagonist of the game along side his twin sister Allyson Ronan making history as the first Playable Transgender character in a AAA studio game. The game was nominated for multiple awards and brought home 5 wins, including one for August, Gayming Mags best LGBTQ character 2020. In this episode August shares insight into his experience working in the industry and gives us his thoughts on diversity in casting and in video games. We hear about how authentic casting provides learning opportunities for people and more importantly inspiration for young trans people through genuine and sincere representation.  We discuss how characters can feel more ‘full’  when the voice behind the character has lived experience and can empathise during their performance.   August believes being proud and open is key to living and being cast authentically, to inspire others. You always just have today so make it count and honour what you need to be fulfilled and true to yourself. Are you ready to take your voiceover career to the next level?
