It's not a particularly good one, actually it's pretty poor in the grand scale of Radios, but it's not absolute garbage, and it does work as it's designed to. The thing that makes it iconic is the price. Where a Radio Amateur might have paid £300-£1000 for an equivalent product from a reputable manufacturer (Icon, Yeasu, Kenwood etc), I paid around £7 for this one from China (or £26 in the UK)! Which is astonishing when you consider this includes the Radio, Antenna, a Removable Li-ion Battery, two headsets, case, cradle dock and a charger. The reason these are popular with a lot of folks is that they can be easily programmed to use the Licence Free PMR446 frequencies, (although technically it's not legal to do so) so they are popular with off-roaders, paintballers, security companies etc. It’s a hell of alot of tech of £7 - and even works as a rechargeable torch! …therein followed a long thread in our MeWe Group as listeners compared their memories and various pieces of Ham Radio kit! ------------------ Harry Myhre (“My-ree”) Amazon’s New Home Internet Service Is One Step Closer to Becoming a Reality “Amazon plans to introduce home Internet service. Much like the starlink service. But I can see Amazon being able to offer more pricing bundles than Starlink”, says Harry. 3000 Satellites being launched into low-orbit! ----------------- -------------------- Hardline on the hardware New Razer soundbar uses AI-based head-tracking to beam audio directly to your ears Motorola’s upcoming budget phones are all but official in exhaustive leak Samsung unveils 200MP ISOCELL HP2 1/1.3” (12mm) camera sensor that's likely to appear in the Galaxy S23 Ultra Samsung Galaxy Book 3 Series launching 1st February Samsung Display shows off a new folding phone hinge that can rotate 360 degrees RedMagic 8 Pro goes official w/ Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, more Is Google about to kill Apple’s and Samsung’s Tags? - with 3 Billion User-Network NixieX Nixie tube clock and speaker Oppo Find N2 Flip: Global model discovered on Geekbench with MediaTek Dimensity 9000+ chipset and 8 GB of RAM New Tech Can See People Through Walls Using WiFi The Name of the Game Stadia Bluetooth mode - but be sure to do it before the end of 2023! Jeremy Harpham on the Atari Portfolio Retro computing... remember this? MS Dos based Psion 5 rival - kind of - I think it pre-dates the Psion by a fair bit. I've got expansion cards and at least a printer interface somewhere too. This was my late father's. I recollect him using the MS Word compatible word processor and the spreadsheet. I went the Psion way. Matt Jones …as seen on Terminator 2: Judgement Day 😎 Xerxes Hodivala  I so wanted one of these when they were released. I’d gone from an Atari 800XL to and Atari ST and I was massively keen on trying their mobile kit until I got swept up with Psion too!
