Survivors watch upcoming conclave with concern

Radio National Breakfast — Separate stories podcast - Un pódcast de ABC listen

The death of Pope Francis and the upcoming conclave to elect a new pontiff are on the minds of many Catholics, as they look towards what the future of the church might hold. It has also led to concerns within survivor support groups about what a change of leadership in the Vatican could mean for ongoing action by the church on child sexual abuse cases. The American Chapter of the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests, or SNAP, has launched a "Conclave Watch" and is campaigning for a "zero tolerance law" for sexual abuse in the church.  If this story raises any issues for you, you can call the national counselling helpline on 1800 Respect (1800 737 732) or The National Redress Scheme, for people who have experienced institutional child sexual abuse, on 1800 737 377. Guest: Don McLeish, Leader of the Australian chapter of Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests (SNAP) Producer: Rob Kelly
