Simon Birmingham's parting message to the Liberal party

Veteran Liberal Senator Simon Birmingham will retire from federal politics at the next election, and has sent a final message to his Liberal colleagues and the wider parliament. The outgoing Senator is warning against polarisation and division and suggests "tribalism drives more extremes."  On the matter of trans rights, which has emerged as a key culture war in the US, Simon Birmingham says he doesn't want to see the divisiveness of US campaign style politics imported into Australia — and we should back medical science and research.
