French far-right leader Marine Le Pen convicted of embezzlement

The political ambitions of one of France's most recognisable politicians have been dealt a significant blow overnight ...   A Paris court has found the leader of the far-right National Rally, Marine Le Pen, guilty of embezzling European funds to finance her party. Ms Le Pen has now been barred from running for office for five years, effective immediately — making it almost impossible for her to contest the 2027 Presidential election.
