Hey Full House Fans, Angela Bowen here, the host of Oh Mylanta Holy Chalupas: An Unofficial Full House Fuller House Podcast. Today, I'm covering the first episode in The Break Up Double Feature, Full House S7E13: The Perfect Couple, which aired on December 14, 1993. In this episode Joey has been hired as the host for a test-run of a new game show called The Perfect Couple, which tests couples at different stages in their relationships, to see how well they know each other. DJ and Steve are the "dating couple", Danny and Vicki are the "engaged couple", and Jesse and Rebecca are the "married couple". But as it turns out, the game starts to bring out the worst in all three relationships. This episode just like the first time I watched it when I was 11, had me in tears again. I really enjoyed going back through this episode and noticing things I didn't notice before in my previous viewings. A lot of similar color schemes clothing wise with Stephanie, Michelle and the twins, Alex wearing red, Nicky wearing blue, Michelle wearing red, Stephanie wearing blue and white, also Steve wearing blue and white. I just thought that was funny I didn't notice it till watching this episode for the podcast. Also the scene where Steve sees DJ in her room getting ready for Joey's game show after the embrace, Scott Weinger (who plays Steve) pulls back and looks down at his feet like he's making sure he's on his mark for the blocking. I really make my opinion known on how much I dislike Vicki's hair for this episode. It's like a dark brown when we're used to seeing her with auburn red hair. It just makes her hair look like a perm gone wrong. Joey hosting the game show was giving me major Jim Carrey Fire Marshall Bill from In Living Color vibes what with those fake teeth and stretched out smile. Gah! Now I will be the first to say as kid I loved Danny's proposal to Vicki and the end of Season 6 at Disney World, I mean who didn't right? Now as an adult looking back at that and seeing how Danny and Vicki would have never worked out at that point. She was career oriented, she had been she we were first introduced to her on the show in Season 5. Getting a chance of a lifetime as a news anchor in New York is a big deal, no way she was gonna give that up for settling down with Danny and the family, I mean in Season 5 when she got that job offer in Chicago, she took it. Granted she and Danny were just dating at the time but still. She was a career focused woman. Honestly, it felt like the writers were just toying with us, the viewers and Danny especially after they got engaged, if they were just going to drop the relationship, what even was the point. I can see how the marriage supposedly would have wreaked the dynamic of the show since it's supposed to be 3 guys raising three girls, but Danny deserved some happiness. Thank goodness Fuller House went in a different direction and allowed DJ and Steve to get married. Join me in two weeks, when I cover the next episode in The Break Up Double Feature, S7E19: Love on the Rocks, which aired on March 1, 1994. In this episode D.J. tells Becky that she is worried about her relationship with Steve, after Steve goes to a seminar in Los Angeles with his film class. Have a great weekend everyone!
