Yoma 86a - Two Dimensions of Derech Eretz- אשרי אביו שלמדו תורה

There is a basic level of universal decency and ethic. But then there is a higher level of decency which we can extrapolate from the Torah and implement. Doing so creates a Kidush Hashem where we add value not only to society but also to Hashem Himself so to say. Sources
