Talia is a fiction writer who gives voice to those without one in society. She creates awareness, opens people’s eyes to human rights’ issues, and paves the way for social change.  Her advocacy work has taken her to the United Nations as the first person to ever present at the U.N., on Infanticide in China. A tireless advocate for human rights, Talia just published a new novel, titled The Third Daughter. Inspired by Shalom Aleichem’s short story, “The Man From Buenos Aires,” The Third Daughter tells the story of a young Jewish woman, and many like her at the turn of the 20th century, who were lured from antisemitic pogroms in Russia into Buenos Aires, Argentina with the promise of a good life, only to be forced into a life of prostitution and abuse.  Before turning to fiction writing full-time, Talia worked for Redbook magazine, and was the publisher of Savvy Woman magazine. A former adjunct professor at the Long Island University School of Management, and a marketing consultant to Fortune 500 companies, she was also a volunteer counselor and lecturer for the Small Business Administration and a member of United States Information Agency’s (USIA) missions to Russia. She participated in the 1995 International Women’s Conference in Beijing, where she sat on economic panels and helped develop political campaigns for Indian and African women.  Today Talia talks to us about the social problem that she tackled in her latest book, The Third Daughter, and one which is far from extinct today: sex trafficking. What is being done about this issue? What needs to be done and who are the players taking positive action to combat this social disease?
