Sometimes it's just gotta be about the ride...On this episode we go down an empowering road of revenge with 'Alice'Alice (Keke Palmer) spends her days enslaved on a rural Georgia plantation restlessly yearning for freedom. After a violent clash with plantation owner Paul (Jonny Lee Miller), Alice flees through the neighboring woods and stumbles onto the unfamiliar sight of a highway, soon discovering that the year is actually 1973. Rescued on the roadside by a disillusioned Black activist named Frank (Common), Alice uncovers the lies that have kept her enslaved and the promise of Black liberation. We'll be the first to admit that this one...is a bit out there, but if you embrace the ride you get some perspective on the bad ass journey of this character.  As we talked with writer/director Krystin Ver Linden I could sense a very empowered story that is trying to say something but also embracing the style of cinema at the time as we not only talk about civil rights, racial equality, but throw in a little revenge and Sam Peckinpah to remind us all that female driven storytelling can be anything it damn well wants to be.
