My guest this week is the talented Kibwé Johnson. Kibwé is a 2 time USA Olympian at hammer throwing. He competed at the 2012 London Olympics and the 2016 Rio Olympics. He first qualified for the Olympic games through a stellar year in 2011 where he first crossed the gold standard benchmark for the 80m hammer throw. He then parlayed that achievement into a fascinating journey to preparing for the London Olympics. It was the first time an American had made the finals since 1996 in the hammer throw. A sport that is traditionally dominated by eastern European countries. What really impressed me about Kibwé was how deeply he thinks about the mental and psychological side of sports. It’s actually no surprise when you consider that he also has a degree in sports management and coaching. Today he is a performance coach with his company and consultancy FORTIUS Performance and he also coaches track and field. We had a very wide-ranging conversation about his career, competing at the highest level, what practice looked like, and what it was like working with Dr. Anatoliy Bondarchuk - one of the greatest ever Olympic champions and coaches in the hammer throw. We went deeper into the lessons he has learned through his career in track and field that he is now applying in business. Please enjoy! Are you an expert? Want to create your own online course?
