Let's start by acknowledging that Tesla has long held the crown for fast-charging networks in North America. Until now, Tesla has exclusively built, deployed, and operated its own Superchargers. The company's connector design has become so advanced that even competitors are adopting it. Tesla's charging network is no small feat, and automakers want a piece of that pie. Now, in a groundbreaking move, Tesla is selling its Supercharger hardware to BP. This marks a historic first: BP will deploy Tesla-built but BP-branded charging stations at its own sites. It’s an acknowledgment that Tesla’s technology is key to advancing the entire EV market, and it also offers Tesla a brand-new revenue stream. The specifics are tantalizing. BP will be getting Tesla's latest Supercharger hardware, complete with Magic Dock, which accommodates CCS vehicles in addition to Tesla's own. Locations for these new Superchargers have already been chosen, including key cities like Houston, Phoenix, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Washington D.C. The roll-out will commence in 2024.
