In psychology, there is a theory of human perception that arose in the early 20th century called Gestaltism or Gestalt Psychology. The underlying premise of the school of thought is that organisms do not perceive the individual parts of a larger structure, but rather the structure as a whole. The theory is often summed up by the phrase "the whole is more that the sum of its parts." It is very brave of the creators of this episode of Boy Meets World, season 6 episode 18 "Can I Help to Cheer You" to really put this theory to the test. Can an episode be greater than the sum of its A and B plot? Is it possible for an episode to be worse because of the sum of its parts? Can the appearance of absolute darling Nia Vardalos (of My Big Fat Greek Wedding fame) help this episode rise above the material that it is given?
